Centering well-being, equity, and poverty reduction in climate and sustainability transitions

Parallel Session - Just green transitions are a cross-sectoral policy challenge that is significantly interlinked with broader goals of well-being such as equity and poverty reduction. By aligning their climate action to well-being goals, governments can maximise synergies and minimise trade-offs between economic, social and environmental policy objectives. These synergies can be leveraged around jobs, income, health, education and wider environmental quality. At the same time, concerns about the impact of climate policies on issues such as the affordability of energy or jobs should be addressed to reverse growing economic and social inequalities, and may limit policy action. This session showcased research and practice examples to highlight the need for broader approaches to climate and sustainability transitions that centre well-being, inequalities, and poverty reduction.

This session was moderated by Francesca Utili, Director General for International Financial Relations, Department of the Treasury, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Italy.
