Plenary Roundtable - The rapid advancement of digital technology, and particularly the development and widespread use of artificial intelligence, is already having a profound impact on people’s lives at the individual and societal level. This session explored different high-level perspectives on how cutting-edge technologies can be harnessed to create a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future for all, in a safe, ethical and inclusive manner. It addressed how countries and organisations are putting in place more people-focused AI development strategies, and will explore the positive scenarios for the impact of AI on well-being – such as actual and potential applications to improve life conditions, support climate action, reduce inequalities and boost social inclusion - as well as the necessary safeguards to prevent negative outcomes in terms of worsening inequalities, discrimination and bias, as well as in areas such as data privacy, informational trustworthiness, and employment.
This session was moderated by Jerry Sheehan, OECD Director for Science, Technology and Innovation.
